4  Ways to Conquer ADHD as an Adult

It seems like more and more people are living with ADHD today than ever before.

It seems like more and more people are living with ADHD today than ever before. As a child, there are education plans and accommodations to help you get through school, but what about once you’re an adult and trying to work? Here are some ways to help you with ADHD as an adult.

Minimize Distractions as Much as Possible

One of the best ways to be more productive when you are someone who is easily distracted is to minimize distractions as much as you possibly can.
  • Arrive to work earlier, when it tends to be quieter.
  • De-clutter your workspace.
  • Use noise-canceling headphones.

Keep Track of Your Time

Having ADHD can make you take longer to complete projects, so it is important that you learn how to budget your time well.
  • Complete similar tasks together.
  • If you’re prone to falling off-task, set alarms for yourself as reminders to stay on-task.
  • Ask for feedback from your supervisor, or even a helpful coworker with more experience.

Move it So You Don’t “Lose it”

If you’re someone who needs to move around in order to be comfortable, something as simple as tapping your fingers can help you out. If you’re feeling restless, just get up and take a quick walk. Even if you just go to the bathroom or get a glass of water, that small amount of movement may be all you need to focus your mind. Working out is another fantastic way to get your body moving and release tension. That’s not to say you should spend hours at the gym every day. Whatever level of movement you are comfortable with will help.

Care for Yourself

It is a common misconception that ADHD can only be treated with medication and professional help. While those things certainly can help, there are some measures you can take on your own to help yourself.
  • Spend time outdoors
  • Eat healthier
  • Make sure you’re getting adequate sleep
