The Most Meaningful Jobs

Mental Health The list was created in partnership with PayScale, as they collected data and answers from workers in over 400 jobs. The compensation data was based on the following:

  • Salary/Wages
  • Tips
  • Profit Sharing
  • Bonuses
  • Commission

The questions asked to the workers were based on if the individual felt as though their work was making a difference within the world. There was a three-way tie of most meaningful job for the list. Those jobs were orthopedic surgeon, police chief, and youth minister. While it is known that an orthopedic surgeon makes a decent living, a median pay of around $337,800 per year, the other two occupations do not see a paycheck as large. However, a smaller paycheck doesn’t deter individuals from these meaningful jobs. While a police chief receives a median pay of $63,100 per year and a youth minister only receives a median pay of $35,000 per year, 100% of those surveyed found their occupation meaningful. Other occupations that made the list of meaningful jobs include the assisted living administrator, elementary school principal, and executive director to a non-profit. Most of the occupations on the list of meaningful jobs involve a close interaction with people in a community, such as a counselor or sign language interpreter. For the employees here at Family Service Foundation, Inc., this information doesn’t come as a surprise. Our team has found meaning in their work here at FSF as each team member works every day to help those who pass through our doors and who live in our community. Family Service Foundation, Inc. has been serving the greater Maryland area since 1942. This nonprofit organization is here to help Maryland residents across a span of different areas such as mental health, developmental disabilities, substance abuse problems, and interpretation for deaf and deaf-blind individuals.
